Fun Furniture Idea: Chairs in the Air by becky
Now, Becky gives you a topic “Give Your Room a Lift With a Chair From the Ceiling”. This time, Becky start with several questions. Short on floor space? Tired of those annoying felt stickers that protect your hardwood floors from furniture feet? Fearful that your couch is going to eat you alive? Perhaps it’s time to try something different. If you loved the swings as a kid or have fond memories of swaying in a hammock, you may want to give hanging furniture a whirl. Here are just a few things hanging furniture can do.

Make a fun perch for kids and pets. Jonathan Adler’s dog Liberace very much enjoys this groovy seat! Using 1960s-style woven hanging chairs can give a room that retro Fisher’s Island/Sea Ranch look.

Inspire a dramatic backdrop. The beautiful work of Charline Lancil adds the perfect backdrop for these hanging bubble chairs.

Provide a spot to escape it all. These woven hanging chairs look like hanging mini tipis. I imagine sitting in one is like having in one’s own private treehouse.

Give a spectacular view its due. This hanging bed is the ultimate spot for relaxing and enjoying a tropical paradise.

Introduce texture. This wicker hanging chair adds a new texture and great curves to this light open space.

..and with this gorgeous view behind it, the sitter is sure to spin around in the chair and enjoy his perch.

Bring mad curves into a space. I spied this pair of bubble chairs on The Modern Atlanta House Tour a few years ago. This room is a great balance of curves and straight lines, and the silver cushions, bright green Swan Chair and grass accent make it a fun lounge.

Create soft surroundings for reading and listening to music. This type of hanging chair is almost like a vertical hammock, surrounding the sitter with cushy comfort for swinging and spinning around a bit

Provide a breezy spot for a nap. A hanging loveseat is a wonderful addition to a porch or sunroom. It’s a great place for reading or an afternoon nap.

Bring out your inner child. Colorful bolsters are great for propping your head and feet when lounging. This hanging settee has room for sitting with a friend, too.

Give a child his or her own fun seat. This playground-like tire swing adds a playful surprise to this open contemporary room.

Speaking of kids, you may want to let your child have a hanging chair in his or her own room. Such a cozy spot could encourage reading.

Add to your outdoor decor. Don’t fret if there’s nothing overhead to hang the chair from. Many of them come with stands.

By the way, I’ve always wondered about beds suspended like this. Have you ever slept on one? Are they practical when you’re trying to get a good night’s sleep? Do they actually swing back and forth much or are they usually pretty taut? If you know, please let me know in the comments section below.
